Spin the wheel to land on a random letter

Letter Wheel — Spin for a Random Letter

The Letter Wheel is a spinning alphabet wheel. Pick a mode, give it a spin, and it lands on one letter at random — shown at large size with its type (vowel or consonant) and its position in the alphabet. It's a fast, fair way to get a random letter for word games, writing prompts, and classroom activities.

Three modes cover every need: A–Z spins the full 26-letter alphabet, Vowels spins only A, E, I, O, U, and Consonants spins the remaining 21 letters. Every letter in the selected mode has an equal chance. Completely free, no signup, and it all runs in your browser.

How to Use the Letter Wheel

  1. Choose a mode: Tap A–Z, Vowels, or Consonants to set which letters are on the wheel.
  2. Spin the wheel: Click Spin the Letter Wheel or the center hub. It slows to a stop on one letter.
  3. Read the result: The letter appears large with its type and alphabet position.
  4. Spin again: Spin for another, or switch modes. Recent letters appear below.

The Three Modes

  • A–Z: All 26 letters of the alphabet on the wheel.
  • Vowels: Just A, E, I, O, and U — handy when a game needs a vowel.
  • Consonants: The other 21 letters, for a tougher word-game start.

How the Random Letter Works

  • Pre-selected winner: The winning letter is chosen with Math.random() the moment you click Spin. The wheel then decelerates to land on that segment.
  • Equal probability: Every letter in the selected mode has the same chance on each spin — no letter is weighted more than another.
  • Runs in your browser: All randomization happens on your device. No spins or results are stored or transmitted anywhere.

When to Use a Letter Wheel

  • Word games: Get a random starting letter for Scattergories, Categories, or Boggle-style rounds.
  • Writing prompts: Spin for a letter your character name, title, or story must start with.
  • Classrooms: Run alphabet activities, spelling warm-ups, or letter-of-the-day picks.
  • Drawing challenges: Draw something starting with the letter you land on.
  • Team assignments: Assign groups or turns by random letter.

Features

  • Three modes: A–Z, Vowels only, or Consonants only.
  • Type & position: Each result shows vowel/consonant and alphabet position (1–26).

  • Free & private: No signup, no limits, and nothing leaves your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Letter Wheel work?

Choose a mode, spin the wheel, and it lands on one letter at random with equal odds — shown large with its type and alphabet position.

Three: A–Z (all 26 letters), Vowels (A, E, I, O, U), and Consonants (the other 21 letters).
